Student dropout affects many young people from Tumaco and San Onofre.
It doesn't happen only in big cities — it starts in our towns.
Why do students drop out?
Because they don't have the same tools, money or support.
Where does it happen?
In our towns and in universities in Bogotá.
Students often live far from their families.
People usually need financial and academic support.
Students always do better when a mentor helps them.
Many of these students will get to university. Will they finish?
It happens in Colombia: in Tumaco, San Onofre and Bogotá.
It starts on the first day at university, far from home.
It happens at school, at university and at home.
Normal: It is serious.
-ING: It is worrying.
-ED: People feel concerned.
There is a big gap between finishing school and finishing university.
There are 2,000 young people who finish school every year.
There aren't enough opportunities: only 36% go to university, and 50% of them drop out.
People are working to reduce dropout.
Many students aren't getting the support they need.
And you? What are you doing to help?
I am mentoring students with PROGRAMA-PRI.
Good morning, everyone. Our campaign is called “Student Dropout”. Today we are talking about a problem that affects many people: students of Tumaco and San Onofre.

Let me ask you a question:
Exactly — it happens because they don't have the same educational tools as other students, because of:
There are 2,000 young people who finish school every year in our community. Only 36% go to higher education, and 50% of them drop out later. People usually need financial and academic support to stay in university.
Out of every 100 graduates, only 18 are still at university a few years later.
This situation is serious, and honestly, it is worrying. Many people feel concerned about it.
“It is really serious.”
“It is very worrying.”
“People feel concerned.”

This problem happens in Tumaco and San Onofre, on university campuses in Bogotá, and at any moment of our studies.
Right now, people around the world are working to change this because we care. Schools are improving their tools and are offering mental health and financial help. Our class is raising awareness too.
“We dream of a renaissance in the Pacific, driven by technology, education, and culture.”
